Our Prayers Represent What We Say and Who We Are

I believe that our emotions belong in our prayers. “If we are without human feelings we cannot love God in the way in which we are meant to love him-as human beings” written by Thomas Merton. Our prayers represent not just what we say, but who we are with their intricate longings and feelings. When we are close to someone, even when that someone is God, we will run through a range of emotion. To think that prayer should be a monotone patter will rob it of its power. Psalms is a witness of dazzling emotional tapestry. A wide range of feelings accompanies our walk with God. We can be real with Him by exulting Him with adoration, bowing our heads in repentance or intently, urgently submit our petitions to Him when we seek His face when we pray.

Hillsongs – Here I Am To Worship

Light of the World
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes, let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of life spent with You
Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You're my God
You're altogether lovely, altogether worthy,
altogether wonderful to me
King of all days, oh so highly exalted
Glorious in heaven above, humbly You came to the earth You created
All for love's sake became poor
I'll never know how much it cost, to see my sin upon that cross
