United Prayer

Matthew 18:19-20 (New International Version)
19"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

“Just like a tree’s root is hidden in the ground and its stem and leaf grow toward the sunlight, prayer needs for its full development the secrecy which the soul meets God alone as well as in fellowship with those who in the name of Jesus find a common meeting place.”

The bond that unites people with fellow Christians is real. Grace renews our relationship to God as well as to others. As believers we are not only of one family but are of one body. Each member of the body relies on the other and the potential of the spirit dwelling in the body depends on the union and cooperation of the members consisting of it. Christians can not reach the full blessing God wants to bestow on them through His Spirit unless they seek and receive it in fellowship with one another. In union and fellowship of believers, the Holy Spirit can reveal His full power.

My Prayer: Heavenly, Father, God Almighty I ask that you show us how You invite us to have unity with Your people by Your promises concerning united prayer. It is when we are one in love and desire that our faith knows your presence and the Father’s answers. Father God, I ask that when we pray that you remove all selfishness and self-interest, all narrow mindedness of heart and separation in which unity is hindered. Cast out the spirit of the flesh through which Your presence and the Father’s favor draw us closer to each other.

Grant blessed Lord, that Your church will learn and believe that it is by the power of the Holy Spirit, and united prayer that we can accomplish great things for Your glory; that Satan can be cast out; that souls can be saved; that mountains can be removed and that Your kingdom will be brought nearer. And grant, dear Lord, that in the circle in which we pray, the prayer of the church will be the power in which Your name and Your word are uplifted and glorified. Amen.
